I saw many OTS candidates there. I also saw BOT and COT officers there. They go in with their rank already on. I had to salute them as a cadet. It felt weird saluted a noob.
@gamerfourm217 It's good you starting to think of this early. Get good grades in High School and college. Enter into the local Civil Air Patrol as soon as you can which I think you can at your age. Do community service projects. Do things that will develop your leadership abilities, and even begin using leadership abilities. Enter ROTC as soon as you can, usually in college. Getting an officer spot is not easy, its hard. Especially with Defense spending cut backs. You have to want it.
No you go right into OTS , no BMT that's for people enlisting.
I graduated from OTS in 1978. It was easy but I'd been prior service, people right out of college had a somewhat harder time adjusting.
Washout rate was about 50% back then, probably hasn't changed much in that respect. Most washouts are by choice, it was called Self Initiated Elimination. Most anybody that wantsa to can make it
@gamerfourm217 Focus on getting good grades in High School and staying out of trouble and staying fit. That way you can get into college easily and everything else will fall into place. Only you can make the decision that the military is the right thing to do.
I met a lawyer who rode on the Amtrak train with me. She was a lawyer and a Major who absolutely loved her AF career. This opened up so many opportunities for her. I am a lowly SrA. I disagree with sista girl at :54 though...lol you won't ever need to know how to march outside of basic unless you participate in A LOT of parades lol
@gamerfourm217 you've still got plenty of time to decide! I went to the air force academy for about 1 year and decided to leave. Now that I'm about to graduate from college, I'm looking at going into the air force again by getting into a medical program and being commissioned as an officer. Trust me when I say that you will have no idea what you want to do for the rest of your life when you are 18. I thought I did when I got to the academy but boy was I wrong. Take your time...enjoy life
is ots for college graduates? im about to graduate in 2 more years for my bachelors degree and was wondering if i will still go through the normal bmt first.
@gamerfourm217 If you can do USAF Academy, you bypass OTS if you graduate from USAF Academy. Then from their I think you get an officer commission and then you can pursue whatever you want to do in the Air Force as a commissioned officer
whats the difference between ROTC and the US Air Force Academy
