HVRA - Harbord Village Residents Association hosted a "Street Clean Up" event Saturday October 17, 2009.

Colin Furness, a local resident, and member assigned to graffiti issues for HVRA Board of Directors spearheaded the event along with Humber College Police Foundations student Justin Shea.

Fifteen youth volunteers from Central Technical School, York University and Humber College pitched in to help out. Several students involved in pre-charge diversion or EJS (Extra Judicial Sanctions) for vandalism graffiti related issues participated in this community building graffiti event.

14 Division School Watch officers Richard Rhone, Brian Herman, Matt Cunnington and Mark Boorsboom assisted in the event, along with Toronto Crime Stoppers Youth Officer/Toronto Police Legal Graffiti Art Coordinator Scott Mills.

The goal was to paint over vandalism graffiti with an oil based primer, and HVRA are encouraging local residents to take that as a first step, and paint their vandalized garage doors.

Residents were also offered the services of a graffiti mural artists to do a commissioned mural on their garage doors. Three property owners took up the offer for murals, and arrangements were made with individual graffiti artists in attendance between the property owners and the artists to complete these murals for the cost of spray paint.
