  • To be able to jump on that pole you will have to have a good approach run with a constant acceleration and a very good takeoff with a tall right hand at the takeoff and a takeoff that is not under.

  • @slashfan7777 Hey, sorry it took so long to reply. I didn't see your msg until now. That is a big difference in poles! 13ft 150lbs is like a 14ft 140lbs if I were to compare 13 and 14ft poles. I wouldn't be trying to 'bend' the pole because probably that means that you are blocking with your left arm (assuming you're a right handed vaulter).

  • Hi I am a noob pole vaulter, my PR is 11.5 ft. I used to jump on a pole that was 13 ft and rated for 150lb, i weigh 163lb (I know this isnt allowed) so I have recently purchased a new pole, this is a 14 ft and rated for 170lb. I am having lots of trouble with it. I cant bend the new pole at all. Im not holding it at the very top yet because im too scared it will stand me up, In fact i have tried and it has. I dont know what im doing wrong and i dont have a coach to tell me. Please HELP!

  • wait how cool is this... /watch?v=GWOMc297iPc&

  • @XmercyX831 This is for when you go upside down. You shouldn't worry about it when you're first starting out. Work on this gradually and when you have more experience, you will learn to use this.

  • Yes, thanks, this is an old video, but I still need to work on that more as I use a little momentum to swing, rather then staying behind the pole. You can check out more of my videos at "wurster2008"

  • hey.. if you're focusing on pole vault bar drills.... don't pop out when you go upside down. Because you DO NOT WANT TO USE MOMENTUM TO SWING as SHOWN HERE- use only core, leg drive and back. Using momentum does not ingrain these skills into your jump it only makes you inconsistent and more dangerous.

  • try running your full speed. swing up as much as you can, and make sure your plant is straight.
