  • Yeah, Houston was great back then. I remember when they broke Archie Mannings arm in '71, I think, well it probably cost him the Heisman. They were also one of the first southern schools to start black players at all positions. Good history at Houston, hope they can get back on the natl. stage. GO REBS!!!

  • Ah...the glory days of the Cougars...

  • Super Joe, Joe Montana could not be rattled, they didn't call him "Joe Cool" for nuth'in

one of the Greatest ever to play the game

  • What I never knew about this game, was the extra point had to be rekicked due to a penalty. Thanks for putting this up.

  • I forgot how annoying Lindsey Nelson's voice was. Why couldn't Frank Gleiber have done play-by-play and send Nelson down to the sideline?

Anyway, a great finish in college football history. Of course, Houston did a fine job of blowing the game too, but it's more "romantic" (for lack of a better word) to remember Joe Montana's touchdown passes at the end.

  • I hate when people hype this game as the beginning of the Montana legend...it was an awful game all around, with Notre Dame turning the ball over 7 times and Montana going 13 for 37 passing with 4 picks. They were fortunate that Houston was even less competent

  • I was at this game. It was cold as hell. I was almost 11. We didn't even stay through the 2nd Qtr. Too cold.

  • What a tremendous comeback. I believe I was 11 years old when I saw this.

  • The sweet thing was he led the comeback with the flu.

  • Montana to Haines,Montana to Clark,Montana won 79 cotton bowl champs,Montana won 4 super bowls and 3 time mvp . Now He is hall of famer. Joe is for ever a legend
