Adapted into the Zerg Swarm in Blizzard Entertainments StarCraft, the origin of the Zergling from the Brood Wars is the Zz Gashi Dune Runner, recreated here inside the Spore creature creator.

Armament:
The Zz Gashi Dune Runner uses its top arms to grasp food or hold onto prey, while its forearm sickle-like scythes are used to tear its victims to pieces.

Locomotion:
The forearm scythes are specially designed to allow the Zz Gashi Dune Runner to run in full quadrupedal locomotion by employing thousands of individual saw-tooth like grooves to improve grip on terrain and reduce erosion. The Zz Gashi Dune Runners body was evolved for speed, making quadrupedal movement more preferable than its comparatively ungainly bipedal movement.

The webbed feet provide all-terrain performance, as well as give the Dune Runner excellent movement in water.

Flight:
They're not as common, but occasionally some species of Zz Gashi Dune Runners grow wings allowing them to make short flutters.

Reproduction:
More often than not, the Zz Gashi Dune Runners are born two to an egg, helping to support their large population while also suggesting a relatively simple genetic structure.

More on the Zz Gashi Dune Runner and the Zerg can be found in the StarCraft instruction booklet, as well as the game itself.

The Spore Creature itself can be located here:

  • his arms and claws are wrong placed

its just the other way arround

clwas come out of the back

  • If you look at the closeup image at the end of the video, you can see the arm comes out from about the middle, before the end of the Zergling's carapace. It does seem however that the arms could be both longer and set further back.

  • have the zergling really wings?

  • Not in StarCraft 1. I added the wings to give the creature a meaner profile.

The Spore armor stuff gets all glitched-up, and I wanted to make sure this Spore creature was as glitchless as possible.

  • The stuff in the YouTube description I just made up. The stuff at the end of the video is from the instruction booklet of StarCraft, in-game screenshots, etc.

Blizzard's never actually shown what the Zz Gashi Dune Runner looks like, this is just fan fiction, although it'd certainly fit with the lore.

  • This is how I always thought zerglings looked like, specialy in SC1

  • Ya they do have wings. When you get the speedling upgrade the model changes and the zergling gets wings in SC2

  • To all the people saying Zerglings have wings... THEY DON'T HAVE WINGS!!!

  • Thank God They Got Rid Of the Wings For SC2, and yes they did.

  • Dune Runners didn't have wings because they were the ones in Starcraft.

  • zergling had wings but they could not fly
