After marching as a Colonial Militia fifer with William Temple's re-enactors at the September 12, 2009 march in Washington D.C., Katy Jones realized the power of period costumes and music in reminding fellow Americans of our Founders. She went home to Texas and formed the Young Patriots Fife and Drum Corps with several of the musicians in her homeschool band. They have gradually acquired period instruments, costumes and flags, and have learned to march while playing Yankee Doodle, British Grenadiers, York Fusiliers, Chester, Rally Around the Flag, and numerous other songs.
In the last eighteen months the Young Patriots have marched in parades, played for Tea Party rallies in several Texas cities, and educated and entertained local Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Republican groups, and the Veteran's Hospital. Just prior to last November's election the Young Patriots also played for Texas Governor Rick Perry during one of his campaign stops.
The Young Patriots Fife and Drum Corps is comprised of homeschooled students aged 7 to 18 who live in Kerrville, Texas.
if you really want to learn how to fife, join a fife and drum corps. in your area. you'll get great and accurate fife instruction every week for an amazingly nominal monthly dues fee. maybe $10.00 a month for weekly instruction.
