The Anzacs (Great Grandpa's Medals) Original song by Deb & Georgia Roberts

April 25th is Anzac Day. I wrote this song as a dedication to the ANZACS (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) and anyone who has fought or who is fighting in any of the wars.
It is especially dedicated to our own family members (see additional footage at the end of the song) who served in the armed forces. We were fortunate that they all came back, many families were not so lucky.

Great Grandpa went away to fight
His mates were by his side
The air was filled with Aussie pride
They fought with all their might.

I never met my Great Grandpa
though I've heard the stories told
of foreign lands and battles
in heat and dust and cold.

He saw things he'd never seen before
He didn't come home with all the rest
now I wear his medals on my chest.

Great Grandpa never got the time
to get to know his family
His life was taken way too soon.
He was only 23

On Anzac Day I think of him
and others from all all wars
who gave their lives to keep us safe.
Anzacs fought for a cause.

Just found your song, very touching. My grandfather served in that war, i served in Northern Ireland, and still we don't learn. Pleased some people remember though. Ex British Soldier.
