Derrick Jensen has been called the poet philosopher of the ecological movement. He has written some 15 books critiquing contemporary society and the destruction of the environment. His many books include "A Language Older Than Words," "Endgame," "What We Left Behind," "Resistance Against Empire" and, his latest, "Deep Green Resistance. "This is Part I of a Democracy Now's conversation with Jensen, taped a few weeks ago in San Francisco. "I think a lot of us are increasingly recognizing that the dominant culture is killing the planet," Jensen says. "I think it's very important for us to start to build a culture of resistance, because what we're doing isn't working, clearly."

  • "One of the problems with this whole system is that destroying your land base gives you a competitive advantage over other cultures who don't... if you destroy your land base, if you DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE, you can turn this into immediate power, and then use this to conquer, which is something you HAVE to do because you've destroyed your own land base and as time goes on you have to keep expanding... and that's not a very good idea on a finite planet."

  • You are a beautiful human being Derrick! Your voice is needed! <3

  • @TreeLuvBurdpu Right...and unfettered capitalism is creating a better world for us all? because we have a higher population? Now 50% of people can live past 15yo (wherever did you pull that factoid out of? Your ass perhaps?) now we all owe our good lives to capitalism, all the comforts we have as a result. Capitalism is not the end all and be all of quality life, sorry to burst your bubble. There are better ways of living and our current society is not doing it right.

  • @gearlockT Yes there were. And they did it by having much smaller populations. If we had remained under those systems, sweetcakes, you and I would not exist.

We are here because of the abundance that capitalism has brought to the world. That is why video cameras that filmed Derrick Jensen exist, why the worldwide web that brought us the video on youtube.com (com stands for commerce), and it is why Derrick Jensen exists. 300 years ago, and prior, a child had 50% chance of living past 15yo.

  • @TreeLuvBurdpu It's not that black and white sorry, there are better ways to live without sacrificing 10,000 years of human progress. Many agrarian and hunter gatherer peoples have lived sustainably and content and not totally fuck over their landbase. Like Derrick said "There have been other ways of living that have been sustainable"

  • @mykebulvai He romanticizes the stone age. That means that he would prefer to reverse 10,000 years or more of human progress. He would remove all the technology that allows him to propagate this message. AKA=joker.

  • @TreeLuvBurdpu the answer is none....go study and go....DO F'N SOMETHING

  • Deep Green Resistance (DGR) is a movement based on the book, co-authored by Derrick Jensen, called Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet. DGR has a plan of action for anyone determined to fight for this planet-and win. This is for those who know the real world and are willing to do what it takes to protect it. It is time to take action. No more ineffective acts - piecemeal, reactive, and sad. Now this war has two sides. Learn how to join the resistance:

  • Yes, but we can use technology to make a paradise on this planet. The problem is greed. And war is definitely not the answer. War makes everything worse. Self defense yes, war no.

  • @TreeLuvBurdpu . dude what fucking drugs are you on? heath ledger was the joker. this is derrick jensen. some tree hugging dude. Joker my ass.

  • This joker admits that he wants to go back to the stone age. I wonder how many people he estimates he would have to kill to get there?

  • @weeearthlings

and another problem is that " We have been too kind to those who are destroying [society and] the planet. We have been inexcusably, unforgivably, insanely kind. " -- DJ
