The 8pin transparent chip is the parallax light to frequency converter. It can be found in the sensors section at parallax.com

propeller is nice, but i'd like to ask about the little dip8 chip on the far left of the board, in line with the led-array and the other dip8 chip. Looks like it's made of transparent plastic, or is it a hallucination? This would be SO COOL to have some chips like that and if you can, please let me know the supplier :) Cheers and happy hacking.

Nope.. in the dark.. brighter is actually harder to see. You want them darker.
In bright light, you need them brighter then the ambiet light.
