I am an LPN on VAncouver Island, who is currently taking university electives, and am going to the RN program in 2010.

Go BCNU!!!! The HEU is a joke. ONe of the girls I work with got bumped by a fresh out of school LPN, even though she had been working full time hours as a casual at our hospital for over 5 years. Why? BEcause the new grad was in the union as a KITCHEN WORKER for 10 years. That's bullshit. BCNU WILL be our new union in 2010.

This happened to me as well last month. I am an LPN in northern BC for the past 2 years. A new LPN grad who had been working as a scheduling clerk applied for a position (even though she was not yet licensed, and was "working on her certification", according to my manager) applied for the same position as me, and with her 15 years of seniority from being a scheduling clerk got this job.It is so wrong!Thanks for nothing HEU.We NEVER hear from HEU unless we threaten to leave the union.

@MrNurse4life My circumstance was awkward and required sensitivity.It became evident over time that my sex and race was ironically a liabiltiy.We are human and our subconcious influences so many of our concious decisions.Many poor decisions precipitated from the initial event.Reality defered due to political correctness.Truth never known-justice denied due to complacency and differing priorities.I know how Fleury feels...

@MrNurse4life Understand I know Doreen has given great service in the interest of members.We all make mistakes unforunately this error was significant.We all have conditioning and our own state of ignorance.Doreen made an assumption based upon sex.Once she did that she lost her objectivity and became incompetent to the task at hand, to my detriment.She was of course not the only player.

I can agree there is much wrong with HEU and LPN's are better off switching to BCNU. Doreen came to the same conclusion, after years of trying to make it work for us in HEU. I've worked with Doreen and know her to be respectful, honest and kind. She has a lot of knowledge and experience, and will stand up for herself and co-workers in a heartbeat- but you probably know that first hand. I don't see why you felt it was necessary to insult Doreen, when it's obvious that HEU is what you dislike.

All the payola is what killed peoples jobs I'm afraid.

The HEU is a disgrace.HEU ruined peoples lives.

Irony is that the hospital lost a great employee.I don't think there was ever a time I didn't observe both the employer and the union shooting itself in the foot.RES IPSE LOQUITUR

Attitudes begat attitudes it's all relative.I'm not surprised Jennifer Whiteshead left.PC attitudes creates an environment of intolerence which of course leads to reverse sexism and racism due to the mitigation of facts.

@bornburied I think I know you bornburied. Did you really walk away from your job, or were you yourself fired? And with an attitude like yours, it's easy to see why that would happen. Get a life, chump. Currently, there are over 5,000 LPN's who are HEU members- most of whom are women. Are you saying LPN's are half-wits? And do you think that because they are women, HEU members or both? I really don't see any shred of intelligence in your post.

Doreen is an idiot.I walked away from my job because of her,an abusive boss who was later fired ,all the half wit co-workers and and dysfunctional estrogen types.

I never liked being a HEU member.They are more responsible for job loss than the Liberals.

Good for you Doreen! And thank you BCNU for responding to the MAJORITY of LPNs of British Columbia who want to belong to a PROFESSIONAL nurses union.

It is only the weak and insecure who attack an adversary in the classless manner found in some of these postings. The HEU showed it's true colours throughout this process and believe me, through all of their lies, mistruths and bullying, LPNs never wavered and signed their cards. I am SICK OF HEU LIES!
