This effect is unlike the Photoshop method where we achieve the 3D effect using multiple layers before merging into one. In after effects we will use the shatter effect; this will give the text a shattering effect if you choose to animate your text.

goddamn, when i try this effect for some reason i dont get that nice emboss/shadow colour coming off my text - the depth is the same colour as the face of my text so when it rotates it looks like a big blob with no definition.
