Ahaha Armageddon comments. The armageddon is world-wide. That's why things seem relatively even remotely stable.
Debt is a real bitch when you get so underwater, the only politically possible recourse is hyperinflation and crumple.
Russians didn't let it go that far. They deflated in a normal correction and their speculators got demolished :) Maybe we should learn a little.
The resulting chaos of insolvency is only as bad as the people make it out to be.

Armageddon is not about to happen. The US will fade as a superpower and decline, but I think this will be more like what happened to the British empire. Not great, but not armageddon

I think when the collapse hits the only things that will have real value will be food, water, fuel, guns, and ammo. You can't eat silver, and it won't keep you warm. If there was no food at the grocery store, and I had food and some guy wanted to trade his silver for my food, I would decline it. Only things that are useful have real value.
