OK I thought this might help other X owners with the same noise. The problem I had was a squeal that could be heard inside the car coming from the front of the engine. The dealership wanted Almost $500 to fix it by replacing two pulleys. Yea right, Nissan service sucked so hard and I wasn't about to pay for even more bad service. Especially something this important. So I replaced the tensioner and the belt myself and recorded the changes. I first replaced the tensioner because it was a bit over $30 and others said an older model of the tensioner was prone to squealing. I felt some dragging rolling the tensioners pulley with my finger so I went ahead and bought a new one from Nissan - which did have a new model number. That got rid of the metallic sounding screech/squeal noise but didn't get rid of the chirping. I bought a new belt from NAPA for $20 and that did it! No more noise at all. So for anyone else, do it in reverse. Get a NAPA brand belt -made by Gates- and if that doesn't work get a new tensioner.

  • Guys, this might not fix the noise for some people (including me). Google NTB06-072b.pdf that is the TSB for the repair. Print it out. The power steering pulley could be misaligned and the noise will come back. Best option is go to Nissan and tell them you have the problem that is in THIS TSB. And show them it. Service should be free.

  • That's weird!? I totally thought I put a link to the how-to.. :P I'll update it with a link.
