Dracula's father was given the nickname "Dracul" meaning "Dragon". This was because Dracul was part of an eastern european society called "the order of the dragon". A group of Elites sworn to protect European Christendom from the invading Muslim Turks. "Dracula" simply means "Son of the Dragon". Because Dracula was so ruthless, Romanians liken to the term Dracul to something evil (such as the Devil himself). However, Dracula is a national hero to some Romanians, as ruthless as he was.

@DAvidgzzgggg Dracul does mean devil. But in old Romanian it was a synonym for dragon. I'm Romanian so I know this too good.
