I'm pretty sure it is. Also, you do hear Bilbo singing it in the first movie, when he's leaving his home. But yeah, definetely in the books.

omg wtf...how can someone not have read lord of the rings. yes its in the books. the song is fran walsh's version of it. It is a similar version but its not the same. read the hobbit its in that.
