Here you see a heavy Evergreen International Airlines Boeing 747-273C N471EV (cn 20651/209) departing from 25L at LAX. Right behind on approach is an Air Resorts Airlines Convair CV-580 in a scheme that's similar to the old North Central Airlines scheme. The pilot really had to fight the controls to bring her down gently, what a ride.

  • That 580 was not wearing the North Central scheme. The tail logo vaguely had the shape of North Central's Herman the duck and that is about it.

  • The controller would have been remiss if he didn't call "caution wake turbulence". Just guessing but wake turbulence would have caused roll problems, not yaw issues. But again, I can't say. Great video

  • Doubtful that was wake turbulence because the Convair touched down way before the 747's rotation point....maybe just a gusty day.

  • That's not the 747's thrust that caused the Convair to act like that. It's the wake turbulence.

  • Loving these videos!

  • Wow! Looks like an old Evergreen pax configured 747. I'm guessing it could have been on an AMC rotator, back in the day: KSTL-KLAX-PANC-RKTY-RODN. BTW, those Convairs are tanks.
