This was difficult for Tom to sight-read so it's a bit rough, but the improvisations in the second half are great. I didn't put rests where the sound effects are (just a gap and a percussion symbol) so Tom ran through them without pausing sometimes. I have since added rests to the score, which you can download here: http://www.keeper1st.com/music/ewjand... (note the cue-size notes are optional or can be used when multiple instruments are available; note also the use of appoggiature in the Harmonica section -- struck on the beat instead of before like the grace notes elsewhere).
I think Tom really could have fun with this piece if he sat down and practiced it!
This music is by Tommy Tallarico from the soundtrack of the Earthworm Jim games.
Recorded at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium after the May 2012 meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society.

Do you or Tom have any advice for a high school student aspiring to major in music who happens to be in love with rag?

Advice #1 is keep at it! There's a lot of ragtime out there. If you're on Facebook, join the group "Ragtimers Club"; most of the top ragtime musicians and historians are there. It's a friendly group of folks, of all ages. If there are any ragtime societies or festivals near you, definitely attend one. (As they only tend to advertise within the established community, though, they may exist and you won't know it -- where are you located?)

Been waiting for this one since you showcased some sheets you'd been arranging. Brilliant improvising and an excellent performance as always. Best song from Earthworm Jim IMO. You've mentioned in the description about him practicing it. What has he said about the tune? Playing the same tune for 11 minutes says a lot! But has he taken the sheets from you to continue playing it? Thanks Keeper for this upload and arrangement, I might have a go at it sometime! :-)

Yes, he did keep the music, but he always does. Whether he'll actually ever play it again is anyone's guess.

I live in south Florida and the problem is that all there is down here is Latin music, which is great too, but rag really gets to me. I'm 17 so my family and band director thinks I am old enough to extend myself into musical societies, I just don't know where to start. Thank you, I sent a request to the group!
