@TheRedArmy10 I personally think Rubinstein's one is the best, but Sofronitsky is an extraordinary musician.

@TheRedArmy10 A polonaise is a march not a dance the dance comes in the middle when it calms down. Marchs are majestic and in this case aggressive.
-
@Libertein818 Why is it aggressive? It's a dance! It shouldn't be very aggressive!
-
@Libertein818 I don't agree with you. I think Hofmann's interpretation is the best.
-
@Libertein818 Meh... I was just being crotchety, that's all.
-
@Lukecash12 So be it then, but it seems we are at a crossroads on our views on how to play a Polonaise and how Romantic music should be played, I just think that some parts are too rushed instead of keeping a little more even tempo. : )
-
@Libertein818 And Sofronitsky didn't? You are chastising an interpretation because it is a bit faster, yet all the while accepting the fact that this is music from the Romantic Period? Sofronitsky understood a Polonaise perfectly. If you like your Polonaise another way, so be it.
-
@cellotune I am actually learning it now as a matter of fact and am playing slower in some places. : ) but if you want the best interpretation listen to Vladimir Horowitz play it.
-
@Lukecash12 Just saying it's too fast and I don't agree with his interpretation, It's a polonaise it's a march you shouldn't race through it, this is an aggressive piece that I believe should be played more... broadly for lack of a better word. Horowitz version is better he understood how to play a polonaise properly.
-
@Libertein818 So you are venturing to say his interpretation is incorrect? Are you claiming to be enough of an expert to cite a source that contradicts such an interpretation? So 5-10 beats a minute faster isn't permissible? This is the Romantic Period after all.
too fast.needs to play it much more evenly, a good interpretation but not the best.

I will try to pass your advise to Sofronitsky if and when I'll see him.
