My tank is holds approximately 1ton(1,000ltrs) or about 440 gallons of water. It's Big. I have 2 Eheim Canister Filters, 1) a Professional III and 2) a Professional II.

After a month, the water became cloudy white and soon after, it turned murky green!

Panic stricken, i first installed a 9W submersible UV Filter but perhaps wasn't patient enough and after 3 days, got a 36W Coraline UV Filter(Japanese Product). I hooked it up to the outlet of the Eheim and Presto! Here are the time lapse results!

Hope it helps some of you...

  • do you turn the sterilizer off when the water's clear already?

  • @dexOn22 No, i leave it on all of the time. It consumes 24Watts so it's like leaving a small lightbulb on.

  • 4 days? isn't supossed uv kill bacteria in 5 minuts or less?

  • @wallaguest1 I guess it takes time for the water to cycle through 1 ton of water!

  • Your tank is clearly too small for those fish... lol Man this is what I like to see big tank with happy fish that can move pretty much as free as they want!!

  • @stunnaonflyrims LOL, that's how it started. Now i've got a total of 17 and probably still very comfortable for the fish! Thanks for your comment!

  • still looks green at the end.... but less

  • can probably avoid this in the future by reducing your photo period

  • im not good in choosing good filter for aquarium can you help me :(?

  • Those fish Love that water. they're active and all over the place

  • why wouldnt you just do a 75% water change?

  • I have never ever had an algae bloom like that. I get a little algae here and there, and every few weeks I scrape it off my decorations and off the sides, and everything looks perfect again. Maybe too much nitrogen in the water causes the bloom? UV filters are expensive, so unless I had bad algae, I don't see the purpose of one...

  • Your tank is clearly too small for those fish... lol That is one of the best comments I have ever seen!

  • **DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY**

Ok just to let you know...I have a 220gal and I fill it up with well water. Within 30mins it is so dense with green you cant see anything. I simply run some penguin (Wheel) or Eheim filters for a few days and it disappears to a crystal clear status. UV sterilizers are a waste of money. Unless someone can give me a good reason to use them besides to kill the algae.

  • umm... wheres your rocks and plants?

  • this isnt 1,000 liters
