This performance was recorded at the Barking Spider Tavern on 3/20/2010. I remember when Bill wrote this song back in '74 or '75. He introduced it to us at the "Stone Church" open mic in New Market, NH. At the time, I thought it was a wonderfully imaginative and optimistic way to react to a romantic breakup. I still do.
@elijahwald Heads up, Elijah. I've sent you a personal message regarding the Morrissey cassette recordings (mid '70s) which I've found.

HI again Gary,
If you manage to find that old tape, please let me know. I'm helping the family to arrange a donation of his material to a good archive, and am hoping to hunt up some other early tapes so that material will not be lost to history... mine indeed fell victims to a flood, and in any case I don't think either he or I had anything that early.
Thanks, and all the best,
Elijah

@elijahwald I may be able to hunt down a cassette tape, with about an hour's worth of originals, which Bill recorded for me in 1974. I recall that two of my favorites, "Hometown" and "Driftin' Back To Boston" are on that tape. Presuming I can find it, however, I'm not sure that its survived the years.

Good to hear. Do you have any of his old tapes? I had a few, but am afraid they may not have survived a flood... I'm hoping to get some people to do the ones he never recorded, probably just on YouTube. Too many good songs that should be heard...

@elijahwald Hi Elijah, I'm in Cleveland, Ohio. I'm still playing about five of Bill's songs. I believe that two or three of them were never commercially released.

Hey Gary,
I was wondering if I was now the only person alive who knew that song. Great to hear you singing it. Where are you these days?
