DAME JANET BAKER SINGS..."WHERE CORALS LIE", FROM SEA PICTURES, COMPOSED BY EDWARD ELGAR, AN ALL BRITISH RECORDING...BARBIROLLI-BAKER-ELGAR, A GREAT TRIO. BAKER SINGS THIS SO BRILLIANTLY.. ENJOY!!!!
I used to have this recording on vinyl. Some wonderful Howell and Michael Head as well as Purcell. I wish I still had it. Does the CD sound as good? It was the best recording of those songs I'd ever heard.
One of the most purely lovely voices ever. I doubt Elgar's Sea Pictures ever had such an eloquent advocate and with Barbirolli's support this recording has never been bettered. I saw Dame Janet in recital in New York for about fifteen consecutive years and she was without a doubt the most profound singer of lied I ever heard live.
When I bought the CD of the cello concerto it had all these songs on it also and I was instantly smitten, although I do not normally listen to classical songs. Her voice is most unusual.
wonderfull!

Thanks for putting this up; however Elgar died in 1934 not 1924.
