Douglas Trumbull returns to give us a peek at his state-of-the-art facilities in Massachusetts and discuss computer graphics and miniatures. The Trumbull film tradition started with Douglas' father who worked as a grip on The Wizard of Oz, but it was Douglas' interest in science fiction and animation that guided him to the film industry. Plus, we find out the secret behind the stunning visual effects in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Ain't it cool?

All of the punks coming up in visual effects today need to listen to Doug on what he says about studying the classics of Art history. He is so right. He has a totally different philosophy on creating imagery. There's a reason he is who he is today. Vis FX work today is pimped out like a commodity. The studios don't care about it. There is no cohesion on the work. Trumbull's approach is employing a team of Rembrandts to get the work done. Not XYZ FX house in where ever.
