@mnmcv1 cant believe it did nothing here in u.k as it was regularly aired on radio 2 and is by far her best

Amazing voice. Her 2nd American hit. Like Cilla and Adele doesn't give a crap about an American audience. Respect that but feel we're missing out.

This song was recorded by Melba Moore first in 1980 and on her album "Closer". However, it was Lulu that had the big hit with it. Both versions are great though.

@jonbecker03 It was perfect for Lulu :-)

i remember this song from the eighties, but i always thought it was sung by an african american singer. i never associated it with lulu. (the tune certainly has an r and b /"disco" style arrangement. it would have been perfect for donna summer or diana ross.)
-
@DA90027 actually, it was number eighteen on the singles chart in the united states, so arguably it was a pretty big hit. it probably did pretty well on the dance and r and b charts as well. (it probably was a big hit in whatever "discos" still existed in nineteen eighty two.)

the Best of her 80's songs!!

oh, this brings back memories!!!!
a big hit in the US in the late summer/early fall of 1981.
I'm shocked it didnt do better in the UK.

fritz51318, good job on the lyrics but i'm pretty sure she sings the line" the debris and the dust of memories, but otherwise you've helped me because i couldn't figure out what she was singing in this line"if i search the whole world over from pillar to post, yeah a simple word pillar,LOL
