Ena Avenell (1913 - 2000) discusses her formative role as NZ's first woman probation officer and her views on the death penalty reinstated in NZ during the 1950s. Ena had served overseas in WW2 as part of NZ's WAC, returning to NZ where she became the price-inspector for the commerce-department in Auckland, before being tapped for the role with the Probation Service. Ena Avenell was awarded the Queens Service Medal for services to the Justice Department in the 1980's.
