Fourteenth of February , eighteen ninety nine.
The British ship Veronica was lost without a sign.
Baa baa black sheep, you haven't any wool.
Captain Richardson left himself a lonely wife in Hull.

Cherub, I lost a ship in the Baltic sea.
I'm on an iceberg running free.
Sitting, filing this berg to the shape of a ship;
Sailing my way back to your lips.
One passing ship gave word that you have moved out of your old flat.
You love the Vicar more then words can say.
Tell him to pray that I won't melt away.
And I'll see your face again .

Odessa, How strong am I?
Odessa , How time goes by.

Treasure , you know the neighbours that live next door.
They haven't got their dog anymore.
Freezing, sailing around in the North Atlantic.
Can't seem to leave the sea anymore.
I just can't understand why you just moved to Finland.
You love that Vicar more then words can say.
Ask him to pray that I won't melt away.
And I'll see your face again.

Odessa, How strong am I?
Odessa, How time goes by.

Fourteenth of February , eighteen ninety nine.
The British ship Veronica was lost without a sign.

  • this is my favorite psychedelic album , and it's mostly for the lyrics, I find it strange when people talk about the songs they tend to talk more about the music, when the comments are, words, you hardly ever see Odessa listed with top psychedelic albums it's a shame really psychedelic is that were put your head not about weird electric instruments

  • @FDigithhim the cello is by Paul Buckmaster

  • I love you Odessa!

  • In Italy, in 1969 - '70, it was the musical theme of a TV commercial (a "Carosello", as the Italian TV spots were called at that time) about the Cinzano spumante. The short was directed by Ermanno Olmi.

  • @harboot4 The Coke commercials ("Sitting In The Meadow" and "Another Cold And Windy Day") were from 1968. Both are on the 2-disc deluxe edition of "Idea".

  • The cello solo is still the best I've ever heard in popular music.

  • found an original of this album at a local flea market few weeks ago.

  • Amazing! This is my first western bootleg album I bought in communist Russia 40 years ago!

Sounds AMAZING! And now, living in Los Angeles I understand what Bee Gees are singing about in this song!

Thank you for posting this great audio and lyrics, my friend!

  • Looks like 1 person was disappointed that it wasn't a Disco Song.

  • Es una preciosidad...uno de mis favoritos...esta música no pasará nunca...un clásico
