Home for Life is an Active House that produces more energy than it consumes, has a healthy indoor climate and interacts with its environment. The home has a window area twice that of a traditional family house.
Home for Life is the first of eight Active House experiments initiated by VKR Holding. The home opened in April 2009 and is located near Aarhus in Denmark. The house was developed by VELFAC and VELUX in conjunction with SONNENKRAFT and WindowMaster, Aart Architects and Esbensen Consulting Engineers.
In July 2009 the Simonsen family moved into Home for Life to test the everyday living conditions of an Active House. The estimated energy consumption for the home is -9 kWh/m2/year, meaning that it will generate more energy than it consumes.
