Ellie Greenwich e-mailed me a few weeks ago to say...It would be great if you put up something for Goodnight Goodnight: that was one of my favorite songs. I wrote Goodnight Goodnight with Bob Crewe around 1966/67. It was on the b-side of I Want You To Be My Baby. We were kind of hoping for a possible two sided success but no such luck. It's still one of my favorite songs.
Unfortunately I didn't get it done before she passed away....which is sad. Casey Photos courtesy of George Schowerer - Sound Engineer

  • Such a great song and nicely put together. Thanks for the post. As you co-wrote the song why wasn't your name added to the credit? Seems wrong somehow.

  • I don't know how you got the idea that I co-wrote this song. Bob Crewe wrote the song with Ellie. I simply celebrated their work as Ellie had asked me to do. Chameleon

  • FYI, that was Mirasound Studios, not United Artists Studios.

  • By chance about 10 years ago I got to sit next to Ellie at a concert in NYC. Ellie was royalty, may she RIP.

  • If you "google" the man "George Schowerer", there are a few links in the results leading to interesting info about Ellie, the background singers, Bob Crewe and the NY recording scene. I'm a big fan of the 1960's girl-group songs. Just discovered THIS song and now my obsession is killing me ! Did Penny Pingleton get her hair-do from Ellie ?

  • Just a great track from two great talents, the late, great Ellie Greenwich, and the magical production techniques and sound of Bob Crewe. This really has such a nice feel to it and definitely had the makings of a smash hit record in 1967. Surprising it didn't receive any chart action. Thanks for the post.

  • Thank you she is a great song writer and there should be a statue or something

  • Wow...This is fantastic! Thank you Mowest Chameleon for sharing Ellie with the rest of the world. Wonderful tribute!

  • You too? I knew it was Ellie, but Dusty Springfield was the first person I thought of when I heard this song. It sounds to me like something she would have recorded.

  • By landing in the R & R Hall of Fame this year with Jeff let's hope Ellie gets more of the recognition she deserves!

  • @MowestChameleon Hi. I read the statement in your write up above. But I miss read it as I though you were saying it rather than Ellie. Sorry about that. Even so I can only read Bob Crew's credit on the label. So there is something missing. Just observing. Cheers
