Am fonn dhe'n òrain "Nuair a chì thu caileag bhòidheach" air a chluich air "strummer from downunder", seòrsa do "stick dulcimer" dealanach air a dhèanamh le Jupiter Creek Music an Astràilia. Tha e coltach ri dulcimer nam beann/Apalaiteanach, le 3 streang agus ceapaichean airson sointread diatonach a-mhàin. Chan eil mi buileach a' leantail na faclan, mar am biodh iad gan seinn, ge-tà.

Air of the Gaelic song "Nuair a chì thu caileag bhòidheach" by Murdo Macleod of Siabost, Isle of Lewis, played on a strummer from downunder, an electric stick dulcimer from Jupiter Creek Music in Australia. Tuned FCF and assisted with some Garageband effects (and a crummy cord providing the buzz). Link to tabs: http://www.box.net/shared/4ph9clkx61

  • Nuiar a chi thu....

Was written by the talented Murdo Macleod (1877-1924) of Siabost, Leodhas after losing in love to a rival whilst living on the summer dwellings out on the moors. Murdo wrote many songs some of which are still recorded and sung today: Feasgar agus Ceo Ann; Se Siabost As Boidhche; Amhran a Neibhi; Cha Mhol Mi Fhin an t-Shaighdearachd etc more info - BBC Bliadhna Nan Oran site under Murchadh MacLeoid.

  • Gle mhath 'ille. Cha chuala mi bioran dulsiomar riamh roimhe. Tha an t-oran fhein sgoinneil agus fior thoigh leam CP ga sheinn.

  • O! Tha sin gle mhath! Ceol breagha!

  • Wow, this is nice! Very sweet music. I'm not sure if it is really a dulcimer, though! It could also be a "diatonic solid-body electric tenor guitar". But it sounds exactly like a dulcimer. That's what matters. So it's a dulcimer.

Definitely a good choice for guitarists who want to also play dulcimer.

I suspect that this instrument would be much easier than a lap dulcimer to play complex pieces on, since the fretting hand doesn't have to awkwardly come at the strings from the top.

  • @MomIB999 Yes this electric strummer is just like a standard strumstick - I have both tuned to FCF. The tabs work for a regular dulcimer too, assuming the same type of 1-5-1 tuning, except the string order is reversed. In any case, I use the top line for the highest pitched string in my tabs.

  • @seonachan

Thanks so much! BTW can this be played on a standard strumstick. or regular dulcimer?

  • @MomIB999 It's a traditional Gaelic song, about a guy who finds out his girlfriend isn't his girlfriend anymore. There are recorded versions by Christine Primrose and Karen Matheson (of Capercaillie). I'll put a link to the tabs in the description.

  • @ElmerPorch Thanks! It's a traditional Gaelic song, so it's not my composition, but it is my arrangement, so I'll gladly take your compliment.
