This tango, composed by Eduard Künneke and released as the B-side to von Geczy's version of "Tango Bolero", was unknown to me but I loved it from the moment I heard it! I especially like its dramatic opening and its rich, melodic orchestration... (giving it almost a symphonic quality).

For the video I decided to make a video featuring Swedish born singer and actress Zarah Leander (1907-81). While she is certainly not without controversy, she has full diva appeal and remains one of my favourite singers/movie stars... The video contains scenes/close-ups from : "Zu neuen Ufern" (1937), "Heimat" (1938), "Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht" (1939), "Das Herz der Königin" (1940), "Der Weg ins Freie" (1941), "Die grosse Liebe" (1941/42) and "Damals "(1943 the now quite famous kissing sequence with Italian hunk Rosanno Brazzi), all in random order. I felt these images combined with the drama of tango made for a rather good combination.

About the record :

His Master's Voice (Electrola) : EG6408/ORA3131

Released a B-side to "Tango Bolero". The record is in great condition.

Please select "Watch in high quality" for the best Video/Audio quality as this is an MPEG-File.
Enjoy!

  • Merci Camille, j'apprécie beaucoup tes commentaires!

  • This is such a beutiful tango, can't stop listening. Thank you, one of the tresures I found in Youtube. (And I really love that you put Karlstad as a tag, beacouse I'm born there ;-) )
