  • Thank you!!!! Very inspiring! I'm in week 5 of wheel throwing and I am addicted! This

    is so helpful!

  • @Fredrika25m Just keep practicing and you will get better and better. SL

  • Very nice looking pot, Simon! Do you add anything to your clay to make it slippery? I seem to have to add more water more often to keep the clay slick enough so my hands don't drag.

    Thanks again

  • Hi Tom

I add nothing to my clay just water !

Do you throw with a sponge ? This alters your 'feel' for the clay as you deprive your fingers of 'touch' sensation.I notice a lot of north american potters seem to do this !???

    regards SL

  • Nice pot. Simon. As you said, the clay was stiff. Perhaps you could do a video about different clays and their strengths and weaknesses.

  • hi

yes it was a bit stiff, which makes for more of an exertion when centering ,hence my spluttering ! My clay supplier mmmmh !!

Ideas for clips are welcome - thanks .

Good potting to you down there ! regards SL

  • Do you use the leather to smooth out the whole pot? or just the rim?

  • That bowl is gorgeous!!!!!

  • Is that a manual wheel?

  • Hello there I would love it if you could explain about different types of clay. The clay use looks a lot lighter in color and I could never imagine manipulating it as easy as you do, especially the way you did with the small bud vase.

  • Ejoyed your "rolled rim" vid too...can't wait to try it on a few pots. I used to throw with a sponge exclusively, but now I just cradle it in my right palm and throw with a curled fore finger, then I can squeeze the sponge gently anytine I need a bit of water down the outside...works well! I'm amazed though at the variations in technique on youTube. All in all fascinating stuff!. Thanks for the tips!

  • No, I don't use a sponge, but the clays I use all feel pretty 'grainy' or 'sandy'. Not at all like a porcelain.
