When Northern Natural was building a coal slurry pipeline to compete with the coal hauling railroads, UP and other conspired to impede their efforts. NNG sued and won a large settlement. The BN made a hostile takeover bid for the holding company that owned NNG and later was known as ENRON. Irwin Jacobs of Minneapolis, Irv the Liquidator, was their agent.

I worked on a project in 1985 for the BN and Northern Natural Gas to test converting and running locomotives on natural gas. It was wildly successful. More efficient, cleaner and less maintenance. The NNG pipeline ran parallel to the BN right of way. Warren Buffett bought NNG away from ENRON when ENRON collapsed. NNG was the ONLY part of ENRON that ever really made money. With Buffett now owning BOTH companies this may give him a significant competitive advantage over RR's like the UP.

I work for BNSF, I sure hope he cleans house on all the worthless management that suck up millions of dollars and resources just taking up space and serving no purpose, instead of laying off blue collar workers who MAKE these rich people their money. The people, conductors, engineers, switchman, brakeman, trackworkers, signal maintainers, WE ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE YOU YOUR $ Mr. Buffet please remember that

People thought Haverty was nuts when he moved Santa Fe more and more intermodal. Looks like he was pretty forward thinking.
