The robe actually looks cool. Perhaps dying these as SECOND time would work, worth a try. However, your idea is somewhat my idea (trying to stretch out the use of wardrobe), so I appreciate this thorough review.
I used RIT dye to dye my white socks for a velma costume last year it worked ok but it didnt keep the color for very long...not a fan of that dye..its fine for tye-dyeing but other than that...oh you can use tea bags to dye white clothes brown (light brown) but it only works on cotton or linen...
Who did you died it? I add salt to the water so the tint stays put and leave it for a day. Of course, I never try color clothes, only black faded ones.
Rit dye is crap. I work at a theater company and for the last show, I was dyeing stuff for 8hrs/day. With RIT dye. Except we had buckets, because it is so f'ing temperamental. If you actually want to fix the clothes you dyed and make them black-er, message me and I will give you more info -_- As my costume shop manager says "RIT dye is the reject of all dyes." Yet, it's the most accessible. FAIL ;___;
Did you add the salt like you needed to
