It's not that he thought he could beat Freeza. It's that him and the others defeated Freeza's army, and with Freeza isolated all by his lonesome, Turles is taking the chance to attack. Unfortunately that's exactly what Freeza wanted. Quite a twisted plan to sacrifice your men to lure the Saiyans in, but I thought it was very appropriate for his character

Saiyan armor Kakarot doesn't exist in BT2.

He also wears his orange gi because that's the kai clothing.
