Life, Darwin and... (5/5) - Richard Dawkins

Fifth (and last) part of the 2008 Channel-4 documentary 'Life, Darwin & Everything'. The documentary is part of the series 'The Genius of Darwin'.

In this episode Richard Dawkins explains the basic mechanisms of natural selection, and tells the story of how Charles Darwin developed his theory.

He teaches a young science class about evolution, which many of the students are reluctant to accept. He then takes them to the Jurassic Coast in Dorset to search for fossils, hoping that the students can see some of the evidence for themselves.

Dawkins visits Nairobi, where he interviews a prostitute who seems to have a genetic immunity to HIV, and talks to microbiologist Larry Gelmon. He goes on to predict that genetic immunity to HIV is a trait that will become more prevalent in the community over time.

Religion is the lazy and convenient answer to complex, difficult and painful questions about the origin of species. Science may not be always 100% correct, and can be extremely inconvenient to grasp, but at least science is based on facts and evidents that do not have to explain itself or be apologetic about it.

@nolobede Humans have difficulty with goodness and honesty whether Christian or not. That's the whole reason Adam sinned in the first place. That's why God came down in the form of a man to give us a way out of our plight. I used to believe in evolution and started seeing that there were other interpretations of the facts that were scientific and that these scientific interpretations were not only valid but also matched what the Bible claims. This can't be coincidence and opened my eye
