Demonstration of the service menu screen of a Neo Geo MVS arcade board. This menu assists arcade operators in performing maintenance, changing game settings, and so forth. If you're a fan of arcade collecting, Neo Geo is right up your alley. Not only does it include the above features, the games are fun and well produced (for the most part, at least). Also, the games are stored on cartridges, and therefore can be swapped out, instead of having to switch out printed circuit boards.

This video was recorded from a unibios modded Neo Geo 1 slot MVS PCB hooked up to a supergun, which allows PCBs to be connected to televisions and so forth. The recording was done via s-video from the system to a PC capture device. The unibios (universal bios) by Razoola provides a lot of additional functionality to Neo Geo systems, including the ability to switch between AES console and MVS arcade modes, as well as a jukebox music player, cart crc check, cheat codes, and more. (A PCB, or printed circuit board, is commonly used to describe the main board of an arcade machine, which contains most or all of the game programming.)

The cartridge used is World Heroes 2, developed by ADK.

The Neo Geo 16bit arcade system - titled MVS, or "Multi Video System" - was far ahead of its time (which uses cartridges for the games). A home console version was later released, and named AES, or "Advanced Entertainment System". Both the MVS and AES versions are highly collectible - and moddable - for great prices. The system became the home of many of SNK's current famous series, including Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, Fatal Fury, and King of Fighters. Check this out for more Neo Geo information:

  • Depends on motherboard. On my motherboard I need to switch dip #1.

  • Interesting - thanks for adding the info!

  • how do you access this menu? I'm planning on getting a mvs machine and i want to know, is there a service button located somewhere on it?

  • There is a service menu switch you can flip above the coin vault. If you look at an MVS machine, you will see the coin insert section (which opens up to the service box) and the coin vault is below that. I hope this helps!

  • A number of games do indeed have blood options and similar things in their soft dip menu. I hope this helps, and if you have any game specific questions, I will see what I can do.

  • I am very new to this kind of stuff and i was wondering why doesnt my neo geo mvs save all my highscores. I used to have a 2 slot and it saved all the settings but then i sold that and got a 4 slot and i have to change everything when i turn it back on.

  • What does it mean when I cant move in this menu?

The original game I had in there was street fighter ex (PCB). I swapped it out for a MV-1A motherboard with 150 in 1 Neo Geo. I get the picture and sound.. but alas no control movments

  • Interesting video concerning the Neo-Geo service menu.

  • i got it on pspneogeo mvs, but i want the sound test to hear music, sfx and voices but they don't have it. please i need a sound test mode.

  • You need to edit these settings that are game-specific in softdip, like blood in Metal Slug and the difficulty level.
