Here is the story about that. During the making of the movie " Modern Problems " Chevy Chase was electrocuted and his heart actually stopped for about 10 seconds (after 3 seconds of your heart stopping you loose consciousness ) . The near death experience caused Chevy Chase to go into a deep depression and this led to his downfall from the top of the a list actors. He is ok now and their is rumors of a new Vacation movie !

Just saw this movie on the golf network and they totally butchered this scene, taking out all the smoking grass and drinking WTF!! Isn't that what golf is all about???
