In March 2008 a grade 2 listed theatre building was partly demolished by a developer who bought the building and told us he was going to demolish it.
The work was carried out without consent and as a result the owner id going on trial at Derby Crown Court in Feb 2010 charged with unlawfully carrying out the work. The building is restorative but the owner ghas had the damned cheek to turn Derby's ONLY real theatre building into a multi-storey car park. This video loks at the state of the building from Crompton Street car park and considers whether we need another multi storey car park in this area.

Why has it taken so long for this to goto court?
All the time since March 2008 the building has been left unprotected from the weather.

egal procedings are long and drawn out affairs and it takes so long for the prosecution and defence to make their cases. Also Solicitors are paid by the hour (cynical opinion) so why rush things? However the City Council should have imposed a works order to cover the building a year ago. These are questions to be answered - however the main structure is stable, most of those loose bricks have not moved a millimetre over the past 16 months.
