Most of this work was done in the last 15 years. My primary material is earthenware and terra cotta clay. I am using slabs of clay, usually layered on top of each other. I cut the design from the top layer with exacto knife. Sometimes I make mold from the original tiles and make slipcasted copies.
A lot of my inspiration comes from architecture. I travel around the world with my eyes wide open. I am walking down the streets constantly taking pictures with my camera or most of the time just eyes. I capture impressions of the city skylines, buildings, structures, and all the details. There is a rhythm in the geometry of the walls and windows, manhole covers, elevator buttons.
Than in the moments of silence I redesign and rebuild all the elements in my head. I do some hand sketches, I sketch again using graphic tablet and Photoshop or Illustrator on my computer. I print the final design and use it as template while working with the clay.
