Yes I Will & Lady Magdalene (2001 medley)

Yes I will
Indeed I will
If I may
If I might
If I can

Once upon a passing night dream
He beheld a mystic image
Bathed in blue reflection
There he stood and made his song

Closed his eyes to feel the thunder
Echo like a wave around him
Love was in the strange house
And he knew he did belong
Yes he did belong

Yes I will
deed I will
If I may
If I might
If I can

Cold it was within the marrow
Waiting like a wounded sparrow
Helpless and forgotten
While the radio played on

Sing your song you fool, you dreamer
Cross the space that lies between us
Cast the stones of fortune
For the journey has begun
Yes it has begun

So you do so you want to be giving
Say it out loud if you need to be holy
So you do so you want to be loving
Say it out loud if you need to be holier still

So you do so you want to be giving
Say it out loud if you need to be holy
So you do so you want to be loving
Say it out now if you need to be holier still
...

The man on the right is a man undone
Hed give you his soul if you asked him for some
A child in his way for he needs to believe
That love is a song for each man to sing

Lady Magdalene
I can hear your distant trumpet
Calling from the morning mountain
Singing to the passing river
Take me home
Show me peaceful days
Before my youth has gone

Lady Magdalene
Make the sound of silent thunder
Calling from the lips of Abraham
Make a sound that we may wonder
Where we are
Take us to your soul
For we have wandered far
...

Yes I will
deed I will
If I may
If I might
If I can

  • What made this special during the 2001-2002 tour was that Neil played the piano while singing these two songs. As far as I know, he had never played piano during any of his live shows before this (and hasn't done so since then, either).

  • A very wonderful and timely medley of two truly awesome songs. They are two of my all time favourite songs by Neil. They possess the mysticism of the originals. His voice is obviously richer/more mature in these versions. I would love to hear him perform Lady Magdalene to its full length. He is truly among the Greatest writer and singer of all times.

  • Brilliant

  • @familycstar Several singers, including Neil Diamond, who once played instruments onstage have dropped them so that they can move around more. And as they've gotten more financially able, they have surrounded themselves with other musicians who can concentrate on their instruments. I don't recall seeing videos of the 1970s Elvis playing guitar like he did in the 1950s.

  • Wonder why he does play more often... also wish he strapped on the axe more often too!

-Makes me wonder why Dylan totally stopped playing guitar/harp... is pretty mch strinctly a keys player now whilst on stage... which, although it has been well over a decade, still seems weird... lol

  • What a beautiful version of these songs ("Yes I Will" and "Lady Magdelene") - thank you for posting

  • Two great songs of a great singer/songwriter. N.D. ranges amongst the top three of my all-time favorites. His great songs are countless and with me they really create what says the title of one of his beautiful albums ... MOODS .... deep inside

  • hermosa cancion, hermosa voz de este genial NEIL DIAMOND.
