the reason you saw him in velvet so late is because he had testicle damage or a testicle defect from birth. I've seen several bucks that way and I asked game and fish why that is and I was told from the testicle issues.

I could easily see this dear being a doe with velvet its just so small bodied... idk though... and im not sure i would call that unusually tall muleys can get tall antlers its just a big antlered deer or trophy deer ;)

that appears too be a 4x5 , dont know why we count ,em that way we just do

the horn abnormality along with the velvet staying on indicates a doe with horns

seems you may know a bit maybe even more than me but the two list i gave you where deer are entered to means .. oNe taken with general weapon rifle shotgun etc. and the other bow ...

@morefudd .. this deer appears to be a mule deer.. the bottom points know as eye guards or brow tines are not counted as points on a buck.. I believe any points or tips on the upper 1/3 of the horns are countable.. whitetail in on the other hand they count any point off the main beam which a brow tine or guard woud fall in... you have to do a little more research on the pope & young and boone & crockett list. which is where deer all over us states will be entered in to if they are monsters..

@punx8086 ... I went over video on more time and the buck has actuall five scoreable points on his left side and four on his right side making him a 5x4... go to footage between a 1.00 and 1.20 seconds and you will see not great but will.

@punx8086 .. sorry pal your wrong too. this looks like a 4x4 buck with crab claw forks on the front .....look at video one or time you'll see.
I appreciate the insight of commenting viewers, particularly rrod49. Thank you for your input. I recently saw another buck in virtually the same location with the same characteristics as the buck in this video. It was an exceedingly tall 3 x 4 in velvet with several brow tines protruding from the base. Maybe it's the same buck? Or maybe he reproduced? I'm hoping to get some footage soon...

I apologize to anyone who doesn't think this is a 6x6, but I grew up in the east and back there everyone counted all the points they saw. When I moved out west, some people only counted points on one side of the animal (the low number of an unmatched set.) Then I talked to some hunters who did not count brow tines. It seems points are counted in different ways in different places. If you believe you are proficient in this calculation, I would appreciate knowing how you count points, and why?

Some may find it hard to believe, but this buck stayed in velvet into February, (the last time I saw him.) He made it through hunting season without a scratch, still in velvet, believe it or not.
