Terrorists are continually probing Americas borders looking
for opportunities to slip into the country, undetected.
In the endless streams of arriving travelers and cargo, or along
remote stretches between border crossings, denying terrorists
those opportunities, intercepting terrorists and their weapons,
requires innovation, a new breed of officer, and a new kind of
organization.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, America's Frontline
against terrorism.
CBP processes more than a million travelers, hundreds of
thousands of vehicles and planes, and tens of thousands of
trucks and containers every day. Twenty-four hours a day.
Monitoring more then six thousand miles of border.
It's an immense mission requiring dedication, relentless
attention to detail, and constant innovation.
CBP continually implements new approaches and technologies
to strengthen security while speeding the entry process for
legitimate travelers and trade.
Partnering with the trade community and Customs and security
agencies worldwide, CBP is expanding Homeland Security
beyond our own borders with new systems that help secure the
international supply chain, and people on the ground in foreign
countries to identify suspect shipments and travelers before they
board a ship or plane bound for the U.S.
And on top of its efforts against terrorism, CBP continues it's
traditional missions of curbing illegal immigration and drug
trafficking, enforcing U.S. import laws and protecting American
agriculture and food supplies.
