all you need is a torch (i used propane), a grinder (i used a bench top my great grandpa modded with a bigger motor), 40/60 acid core solder and a perpose for the joints. the joints are extremely strong, some how solder is always stronger/harder than the material being soldered. i must have put about 70 pounds of pressure each time i slammed it and about 125 pounds when i pressed on it. these joints are just as strong as brazed joins but cost alot less. perfect for custom rc's,displays or abstract art.

  • Is that like a "bernzomatic" torch or is it a propane+oxygen torch?

  • @ihoppy its a direct mount head. no oxy. just thread the nozzel onto the bottle.

  • what kind of solder should I use and would be best for sheet metal? Cause I want to shave my door handles on my truck

  • @pinktacoinvaider i used radiator repair solder, you can get a pound of it for $12 at the hardware store. this works well on sheet metal.

  • @dippst do you have to use flux with it or is it a flux core?

  • @pinktacoinvaider the acid acts as the flux. all flux does is keep air out of the joint for a stonger joint.

  • solder is for copper, brass, steel and any other metal it well stick to. at the time all i had was solder and a propane torch. i now own a fcaw welder.

  • solder is for copper u should braze or weld iron.

  • yes you can use electronics solder but you will have to use the flux as well and make sure the parts are clean other wise it wont hold well

  • one day i might actually care.
