By this time, FWD smaller cars seemed to be dominating the market, but Lincoln kept the big designs and reaped the rewards that next year. Gas prices went down for a short while, and people started buying bigger cars again. Cadillac and Oldsmobile, by contrast, took a considerable hit in sales when they downsized the Eldorado and Toronado, respectively.

For all lovers of lincoln town car 1980's I had one 1981.

I used one of these as sort of a taxicab here in New York City and I put 430,000 miles on it in ten years.
I had to change the transmission because the overdrive failed but oddly enough, the lower "street gears" still shifted very smoothly.
The one chronic problem I had with this car was the power steering box; I would think that by 1985 power steering would have been no big deal.
