Look I am not saying it is right for people to kill seals but Americans in general are always looking out and never in to their own selfish narcissistic ways of life. Americans scream bloody murder when some animal that is "cute" is killed in any way. Yet slaughtering pigs, baby cows for veal and so on is seen as ok so long as it has a pretty wrapper and a diet Coke with it. Another thing is , Americans kill more babies every year than any country on this planet. Look, just my opinion...

Canadas commercial seal hunt is a dying industry based primarily on demand for fur for luxury items. But markets for seal fur are disappearing and sealers earnings have plummeted. Canadian tax payer dollars are supporting the commercial seal hunt paying for icebreakers to provide access to seal herds, providing rescue support when sealers run into difficulty, developing and marketing seal products, and sending delegations abroad to defend the hunt and to lobby foreign governments

Secondly, the seal hunt is a valuable source of income to fisherman in remote rural communities of Newfoundland. You have to remember, that for these families, they are dependant on the oceans to put food on there table, and a warm house to live in.

During the winter, the ocean is locked up in ice. So these people cannot fish, that means there are unemployed. The seal hunt gives these people much needed income.

No. 95% of it is not for food. 95% of it is for fur. And, much of that fur is burned because there isn't as much global demand for the fur as there are baby animals killed. The reason the fishermen are doing this is because they bitched like little sissies to their government that they weren't making enough money so the government changed the law for them and is actually paying them to kill seals for a market that does not exist. That's right. They are destroying life for an imaginary demand.

how come those guys don't realize they can't be doing that to the seals, they are part of the natural environment and they aren't meant to be killed and trademarked as they are doing right now

Ah, we've done and do worse. go cry about some crimes done against humanity. I don't think its preferable but hey, we are a better species and we can do it if we like.
