Here's a little video on how to spot a fake Chinese Les Paul Standard. It also features the T2 model in TH2 by Overloud.

  • She looks pretty good dude. Obviously getting one of those cheaper imports does mean a lot work must go into it. But over time, makes the $200 spent a good buy.I'd love to add a Gibson LP to my collection, but the damn prices they ask,in todays economy, just aint right. Look at Dean, they have a really nice USA version called the MHG's.Available in a classic ML, V & Soltero.all USA made including USA pups for $1200 new.A no frills guitar,no paint, just a nice wood finish. Why cant gib to the same?

  • @4x12 Good question, but I suspect it has to do more with marketing than anything. Higher prices mean exclusivity, so that becomes a selling feature.

  • Would you mind pm-ing me about where you got your guitars and what seller you bought from?

  • @LifeIsPunkRock I bought mine from Dave on Tradetang, but that was in September of 2010. He's long gone from there and I haven't bought a fake in over a year, so I'm not up on who the best seller is right now. Just look for someone with good feedback and at least 30 guitars sold. That's all I did and I've been happy with what I've received.

  • if you pull one of the pickup rings off, you get a good look at whether it's a veneer top. You'll see a thin ring around the routed pickup hole. It's got a nice sound, sometimes unpotted can be a good thing, but if you really want to pot it, you can use clear polyurethane.

  • @11harrison11 I didn't even think of poly, that's a great idea! I've looked at it a few times and I'm still of the opinion that it's a 1mm veneer over either a maple or basswood cap (there is some disagreement about that).

  • @onebad67tempest Ah, so when you said these fakes are "junk" you're were assuming. I don't like to judge a guitar's quality unless I've personally played & examined it. But I guess that's just me. By the way, American guitars & amps are loaded with Asian parts.

  • @gothvox Yeah, they can be a little messy. No worries, though, just a little solder and some flux and you're good to go.

  • @StratCatGenius 18 months and no problems so far. In fact, this particular one is playing better than ever.

  • @onebad67tempest Who is counterfeit dealing? I think you have me confused with someone else. That's great that you support American workers. They must have been having a bad day when they made my Dodge Caravan. LOL

  • @OtakuDude93 None, it's all TH2.

  • @onebad67tempest Actually, it's not a federal offense to own a counterfeit, only sell. So your quote apparently matches you....ill informed. If you own anything from Gibson, it's made with import parts, even some from China. And hunk of junk? HA! Keep telling yourself that! LOL

  • I choose to own, collect and play a real Gibson Les Paul "s" and SG VOS, because I support American workers and don't take part in illegal activity such as counterfit dealing.
