It's too bad Ruth Brown, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday did not get the exposure they deserved in movies or on TV. I would love to see and hear more of them sing their songs now that they are gone.

@howianna It was very true Little Richard was jacked by Pat Boone. Big mama Thronton was Jacked by Elvis. Etta James was Jacked by Georgia Gibbs. Back then when Black artists would come out with a popular record, white acts would capitalize by making a cover version to prevent black artists from crossing over to the pop charts. Little Richard taught Pat Boone though, he upped the tempo on his songs and used vocal acrobatics Pat couldnt match. the public made their preference for richard known.
