Hi I'm John Fischer, I'm the owner and founder of StickerGiant, and today I am here with Todd. Todd owns a guitar store here in Longmont, Colorado – a retailer for high end guitars.
Most of you know one of our best customers for custom printing is Fender Guitars and we recently did two stickers for them. This is a two color sticker that says Road Worn and it's die-cut into a unique shape. W e also did a four color version of the exact sticker. We didn't know what road worn was, so I came down to Guitars, Etc today to ask Todd to explain, What is Road Worn by Fender?
Sure, so Road Worn is a series that is being launched at the Winter Namm show in Anaheim, CA the week of January 14th. Fender will unveil four Stratocasters, two Telecasters, two P Bases and 2 Jazz Bases. And basically what the term road worn means is that Fender builds brand new guitars with all the things you want in a brand new guitar – they tune well, play well and look great. But then they take the guitars and distress the finishes, they shape the necks a little bit so that it feels like the guitar has been played and beaten up for 20 years. There's something extremely magical about having a guitar that's been played – you know a 1961 Strata caster hasl ost a lot of wood off the back of the neck, every nick and ding has its own story. This is a marriage of two things we want in our industry. We want the modern technology of Fender's built quality, to have really great instruments, but we want them to look like we've played them for 100 years. That way if you take your new guitar home to Joey Fischer and hits it into the coffee table and it gets a scratch, who cares?
These are great guitars. Fender has four levels of guitars, an import series built in China, a facility right below the California border in Mexico, one that's right above the border in California, and then they have their custom shop in California. This falls in the Mexican facility, with the same components that would be in American guitars. A ...

fender found a excuse for having shitty guitars...

It has been almost a year since I bought the Road Worn 50's Strat. I have since changed the neck on the guitar ad now it plays well. There must have been a problem with the neck. The neck that I now have on the guitar is a vintage Tokai "Springy Sound" neck. And it plays better than any guitar I have ever played. I would also like to say that I hav learned to like the pickups now. Like freeagentsxm said: "they are not humbuckers". Which they are not. Sinle coils have a different sound.

I love the "pickups are weak" argument here. Dude, these aren't humbuckers, and they're not meant to be. Many people actually prefer very low output pickups like the custom shop 69's, but the tex mex are actually a pretty high output set. If your expecting a metal guitar, you should probably look elsewhere, but these aren't really marketed as such, so i don't know what your complaining about. It sounds like the only thing your guitar needed was a setup.

Bought a strat today, brought it home, hooked it up...taking it back to the store tomorrow. It has high string action, it frets out even on moderate bending above 12th fret, the tremolo has huge dead-spot around neutral (ie. no precision), the pickups have weak output, it pick's up alot of noise (no pedals, straight into the amp) and it absolutely will not stay in tune (only subtle use of tremolo on open chords). It's pure B.S. Totally agree with "tothatextent".

I have the same Frets on my John Mayer strat and it plays fine, again I think you got a dud, b/c all the ones I have played have been really nice

I have raised the strings as high as they can go and it frets outlike crazy above the 12 th fret. I do think that from the open position to the 10th fret it does play well, probably the best feeling guitar I have ever owned. But those higher frets are a nightmare.

I don't know what some of you are hearing, but I have played through several roadworns, and the pickups are hot and sounds great. I do agree that a few need some pro setups, high E would fret out from the 10 fret all the way to the 20th fret, could be the traditional 7.25 fingerboard radius, and the action set too low for that radius, but once it is setup properly, this roadworn plays damn great. I like the bare wood feel on the neck.

are you sure, maybe you got a dud, but tex mex pickups are a hotter single coil, and the tremelo is the American vintage trem and Jimmie Vauhgn trem.

These guitars are not good. The pickups are weak and the tremolo is especially bad. I have never owned a guitar with so many dead-spots on it. The thing will not stay in tune. It is basically junk,

Guitars look great but they should have used some better pickups in the guitar though. Quality en versatillity of the pickups is a bit medium (my opinion :P)
