I had infield passes and was behind Richard Petty's pit crew when this happened. Years later I ran into the late, great Benny Parsons at a Cracker Barrel in Brunswick, GA and told him I thought he was going to pull out a second straight miracle. He said he thought so, too. Parsons also told me he got mad at Petty's pit crew for running out and trying to push start the car. Petty still got second because Parsons was a lap down.

Petty had the best line when asked if he'd ever watched this finish and he said he had, but no matter how many times he did, he still lost! Classic NASCAR with thick Southern accents

Pearson said towards the end he had a "squirrel on his tail"-not many know that "Squirrel" was Richard's nickname back in his very early days. I was fortunate to watch this race & ending live in '76 when I was 10 years old. Back then ABC cut away from the race to show skiing, ice skating in big chunks. Good to see an "old school" racing team win Daytona again today for the first time since this.

35 years later in 2011 the Wood Brothers would win Daytona again with Trevor Bayne, sort of like Tiny Lund did for the Woods.
