  • In my opinion is too fast

  • This is certainly a brilliant performance. The tempo is a little too fast for my liking. I'm not sure that it could be played this fast on the harpsichord of Bach's day. This performance is certainly a tour de force and my congratulations go to the young soloist and to the orchestra for keeping it all together successfully. Baroque tempos are based on the heart beat and in Bach's polyphony the emphasis is on the satisfying working out of a motif rather than virtuosity as such. Am I wrong???

  • Very nice.

  • It's really difficult this song.

    I enjoy that music. :)

  • @gerardbedecarter I think these players sound ragged at this tempo. But on UTube you will find polished period instrument performances of this same work at a similar tempo. So why do you think it couldn't be played this fast on the harpsichord of Bach's day? You say Baroque tempos are based the heartbeat. Whose hearbeat? Yours, mine or Bach's? Bach's 2nd son said his father like fast tempos! What motifs can you not hear at this tempo?

  • its wayyyyyyy tooo fast

  • too fast, out of pace..... david fray's version is spot on in contrast

  • Actually this piece is kinda hard to mess up with fast or slow tempo as long as it's kept consistent and articulated well (as here). I kind of enjoy variety and the faster tempo occasionally serves it's purpose. Love Glen Gould's also.

  • Music is never too fast or too slow . It becomes that new state the players have given to it if they obey its new rules . It is simply not that all music stays the same this is an easy way to change a character who was once this way or that now he is like this .Sometimes the players haven't notice the real difference .Their lies the problem!

  • Bach had a concept of the "tempo guisto", and it is just too unfortunate that I don't hear any of it in this performance. In my opinion, Bach just isn't Bach anymore if the brilliance of the construction of the music can't shine through via the the player's interpretation

  • that was not Bach version..that was liszt...ridiculous..
