After cleansers, moisturizers are often difficult for most people to choose. With so many choices out there, how do you pick the right one? As a general rule of thumb, moisturizers should be uncomplicated barriers to protect the skin from dryness with a few key humectants. They should be free of fragrances, colorants, and other irritants. Luckily for most of us, simple moisturizers can often be found inexpensively at the drugstore. Choose the moisturizer that is the right vehicle for your skin - gel, lotion, or cream.

The real place to splurge is with scientifically-proven active ingredients in effective concentrations and the proper vehicle. Put these on your skin right after cleansing, then apply your moisturizer. This two-pronged treatment will give your skin the best of both worlds!

  • Do you know anything about LUSH's vanishing cream moisturizer? I've been trying to decide whether to buy it or not (it's pricey, about $40) or if I should just stick to a drugstore moisturizer ..

  • @xSuika I've heard of it but haven't tried it. I agree, it is quite pricey for what it is and the amount you get. It also contains essential oils which are irritating more often than they are soothing. I'd suggest a bare bones drugstore moisturizer and splurging on acne treatments, vitamin C serum, and a good sunscreen. =)

  • Do you want to be a dermatologist when you grow up? Cause that would be perfect (:

  • @GeminiAGogo Haha I've thought about it, but I don't think it's my true calling. =) Skincare's more of a hobby for me!

  • U HAVE SOME GOOD POINTS! WHY DO SO MANY WOMEN GET SUCKED INTO BUYING EXPENSIVE CREAMS BECAUSE OF NAMES AND PACKAGING ? THE MARK UP IS OVER 300%!! WHAT A DAM RIP OFF!!

  • so you put those three products one after another on the same day? One thing that I was never sure about was if it was all right to use those active ingredient type of products on the same night, or I should switch them out and use one one day and another on a different day, and just keep switching back and forth. Would using more than one active ingredient type of product keep the other from working to its full potential when used together (apply one let it sink, then apply the other)? Thanks!

  • do you know of any good active ingrediants for sensative and redness? and does the cetaphil moisterizer moisterize very well? i have eucerin and i like it but it seems to not moisterize enough :(

  • do you know of any good moisterizer (drugsore) hopefully with zinc but a moisterizer that helps redness/irrataion/ and to really moisterize? i know its alot. :0 i just dont want to buy so many products :) if you know what i could o please let me know :)

  • @entertainmentguy1984 I don't think it's such a good idea because if it's meant for your body, the moisturizer is probably too powerful to use on the delicate skin on your face. You'll probably end up in more breakouts then you did before!

  • A thing to remember with oily skin is, you need to use moisturizer even if you have extremely oily skin. Use it once you've washed the oil off with a cleanser. The reason your face produces oil is to combat dry skin. If you have a non-comedogenic moisturizer taking place of that oil, you will get less acne due to less oil clogging your pores.

  • are body Moisturizers ok to use on ur face? im having a problem my forhead and the skin on my face under my eyes have little break outs and i dont know what to do i have oily typ skin and im not sure what to use to help my skin when it comes to a good Moisturizer
